While it’s unclear who coined the term “cloud computing“, it would seem Google CEO, Eric Schmidt first started throwing it around in the summer of 2006, the same month Amazon‟s EC2 platform was released.[A] By the time Nicholas Carr published his best seller, “The Big Switch‟ in January of 2008 the term”cloud computing” has been used to describe anything computational and not running on-site.

One of the least understood and still one of the most anticipated technologies to date, cloud computing promises to deliver software services to consumers and businesses that will offer more freedom, more money and less complexity then running software on site.

The simple answer is using cloud computing technology on the internet to do the “day-to-day cloud computing” that we do each day. We use applications that are on the cloud (internet) and we use it as a service rather than investing into software and installing that software on the computer on site. Typical cloud computing services provide common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.”
